Breakthrough in Quantum Computing: Joint BUET and Dhaka University Research Team Engineers Impervious Post-Quantum Cryptographic Algorithm
At a critical juncture where the imminent dawn of fault-tolerant quantum computing threatens to render standard digital public-key encryption obsolete, a collaborative research team from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and the University of Dhaka has achieved a breakthrough in sovereign quantum-resilient cyber defense. Utilizing hyper-dimensional lattice geometry, the researchers have formulated a mathematically impervious Post-Quantum Cryptographic (PQC) algorithm capable of thwarting decryption from any super-scale quantum computer.
The pioneering research has been published as the cover study in the prestigious peer-reviewed journal IEEE Transactions on Information Theory. Dubbed 'PADMA-Q' (Padma Quantum-Shield), the mathematical architecture successfully cleared rigorous global benchmarking assessments administered by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), outperforming prominent international prototypes in computational efficiency and compact key size.
Lead investigator and Professor of Computer Science at BUET, Dr. Sajjad Hossain, explained: 'Legacy RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) will disintegrate before Shor's algorithm running on large-scale quantum hardware. PADMA-Q relies on high-dimensional non-abelian lattice problems that would require billions of years to factor, even for a million-qubit quantum machine. Remarkably, the algorithm is lightweight enough to execute natively on microcontrollers and smartphones with zero latency penalties.'
Bangladesh Bank and the Ministry of Defence have initiated pilot integration of PADMA-Q across interbank real-time gross settlement (RTGS) networks and sovereign military communication links. Embedding indigenously engineered quantum-resilient cryptography protects sovereign financial pipelines and defense telemetry from future 'harvest now, decrypt later' espionage campaigns.
Global computer science academies celebrated the achievement as clear proof of Bangladesh's escalating contributions to fundamental mathematical theory. To expand national capabilities, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced an endowment of 100 crore taka to establish the permanent 'National Center for Quantum Information Science,' positioning Bangladesh as a leader in post-quantum computational security.
